"What's happening?" you call to Avery. You look at the fish-human standing there. "And what on earth are you talking to?"
There's no response, at least none that you can hear over the sound of the voices.
You try to ignore everything and make it to the other ledge. You must be hallucinating. There is no way that this is actually happening.
You can't see anything, the fog has come back and is engulfing your entire body. "Avery!" you call out, "Avery, where are you?"
You hear your roommate's voice very far away. "I'm over here. I'm right in front of you!"
You reach out, but there isn't anything there. You fall to your knees and crawl across the hard rock, groping around on the ground as if you were blind. "Avery, I can't find you!"
"I'm literally right here. Just, look at me." Though the voice seems distant, a hand touches your shoulder. You flinch, not expecting the contact. "What is wrong with you, honestly?" You look up and Avery is standing there, looking down at you, completely alone.
"What, happened? What was that thing next to you?"
"What thing? I just came out here to be alone and you had to chase me down calling 'Avery, Avery!' Way to ruin the peace, you know? I was so startled I almost fell off the edge you idiot."
"Wait. No, there was that fish-human. There. Right there. And the fog came. And I couldn't see you!" You start panicking, it had to be true. It had to be.
"No, there wasn't. There was no fog. You were just standing there the whole time. I don't know why you think you have to come sneak up on me like that but it's just rude you know. Following me? Are you okay?"
Are you okay? You start to wonder yourself…
The End
