Detective Uganariasaurus 3A

"Of course I'm coming in with you." You nod your head as if to reassure yourself and walk through the door. "I couldn't miss this. Who is Carter anyways?"
He laughs a little and walks in behind you. "Carter's... well he's an interesting character. You could call him "well rounded" in the crime world. He picks up a new trade about every month and then expects me not to notice."
"Why haven't you done anything about it then, if you've noticed?" You look back at him and try to sound very intelligent.
"I'll answer that question another time." He smiles at you and walks past, his heals clicking on the shiny tiled floor.
"It really is a beautiful room," you remark, tracing your eyes up and down the two story high walls as you follow him out into a long hallway.
"Yes, it is, and it's all bought with stolen money. Fresh out of the hands of the striking rich and the starving poor," he says this bitterly then abruptly switches directions and grabs your elbow to pull you back the other way. You hear a party of footsteps coming down a joint hallway and panic rises in your throat. The detective opens a closed door calmly and leads you into another large room. He freezes just as fast as your modern world internet, so fast you walk right into him.
"Oh dear." Detective Uganariasaurus says bluntly. Before you is a dining hall, packed with people. Packed with criminals.
One man sitting at the head of the table looks over at you both and stands up, his ringed fingers outstretched towards you. "Detective, what a strange place to see you. And, who is your friend?" His eyes look you up and down amused, and you stare right back, defiantly.
"Carter, I wanted to stop by to see how you were doing. I'm sorry to have interrupted your, um, party." The detective covers up his trespassing smoothly, but it's not quite believable. After all, they both seem to know each other's business very well.
"I expect you thought you'd find a body here." Carter walks over smiling slyly. "No bodies here. Well, except for the blood pumping ones, but those don't count as anything anymore, do they?"
You figure it's best if you just keep your mouth shut now and let the Detective handle it. After all, he's dealt with this guy before and is still alive, so he must know what he's doing. The only difference is you being there.
You look around. There are some people still eating, but others have stopped to watch the conversation.
"Well Carter, if there were any bodies here, that is, the ones that count for something, I wouldn't be standing here chatting with you, would I?" the Detective says with a glimmer of a smile.
"Of course you would be!" Carter laughs.
"Um, no, not at"
Everything clicks and you understand why Carter thought it was so amusing. Just behind you are two armed men securing your wrists.
"You'll sleep well tonight I think. You and your little friend here. Why would you- ugh, it doesn't even matter anymore. You're both dead. You can take them away." Carter turns back to his guests.
