"Dad, it's okay. It's just me." As you say these words you notice that your voice doesn't even sound like your own. Yes, you can still speak English, but your voice has changed, each sound has the effect of a low buzz. What is going on? As you attempt to plead with your father again, your best friend pulls up on his bike.
"What the-" he stares, frozen in his tracks.
"Trey! Thank God you're here. You gotta help me."
Tray glances toward you dad and sister, cowering by the car. He slowly moves to your left, then bends down to the ground. Next thing you know he lifts up a foot-long board and swings it at your face. You dodge it and stare at him open mouthed.
"Hey watch it! Trey, it's me, your best friend!"
Trey ignores you and swings again. His actions seem to help your father regain his senses and soon he too is swinging at you with a board. You dodge their attacks but they begin to work together and surround you. You will yourself to tun back into human form but you can't. You spread your wings and hover above their heads, just out of reach.
"Get out'a here!" your father yells, swinging his plank ferociously.
You begin to fly away in disbelief, maybe if you have some time alone you can figure out how to control these new powers. Making your way down the street you try to block out your father's shouts. Another voice causes you to pause for a second. It is the small, pure voice of your sister.
"Bye. I wuv you," she sighs.
Your eyes begin to water as you look down at her sweet little face. You hear a horn blast, but before you can turn around you feel the impact of the semi.
